For her dissertation Laura convened a collaborative
group of Yoga teachers to explore the relationship
between ecology and Yoga. The group met for a five-day
retreat in Vermont in May 2003, and named themselves
the Collaborative for Ecological Yoga. The purpose
of the group is to clarify the ecological roots of
Yoga so that they may be brought forth in the world--through
personal practice, through teaching, and a variety
of other projects.
As part of her research, Laura also wrote the Yoga
is Ecological Values Statement. The group has
been conducting an outreach project to the community
based on the statement.
Come visit our table in support of this statement
at the Yoga Journal San Francisco Conference at the
Hyatt Hotel, Jan. 30 - Feb. 2, 2004. Also on Sunday,
Feb. 2, 12:45 - 1:30 pm, join us for an informal lunchtime
presentation aned dialogue regarding the statement.
(Check back here for conference room number as it
becomes known.) The exhibitor area and lunchtime discussion
are free and open to the public.
Several of the upcoming workshops
Laura is offering include ecological themes and provide
a relaxing, meditative retreat. Please join us!
If you are a Yoga teacher or have a group of friends
who might be interested in the topic of Yoga and Ecology,
you are invited to help us in our outreach by hosting
a House Party in Support of
the Collaborative for Ecological Yoga.
As this project is a work in process, this section
of the website is likely to be updated frequently.
Check back here for more information as it becomes
available, or sign the guestbook
for updates. You are also invited to consider volunteering,
as this is a pressing need.
